About the treatment

A brighter smile, supervised safely

Professional whitening uses regulated whitening gel to lighten natural tooth colour. Before treatment, Janina checks that your teeth and gums are healthy and discusses the likely result, sensitivity and how existing restorations may affect the final appearance.

Fillings, crowns, veneers and bonding do not whiten like natural teeth. Their shade and position therefore need to be considered before treatment, particularly if you are planning other cosmetic dentistry.

Suitability can only be confirmed after an examination and discussion of your oral health and goals.

What to expect

A clear, considered process

Your treatment is planned around your needs. The exact steps may vary following your clinical assessment.

1

Dental assessment

Your oral health, tooth colour, restorations, sensitivity and goals are reviewed to confirm whether whitening is appropriate.

2

Your whitening plan

If suitable, you receive the prescribed treatment and clear instructions on the amount, timing and safe handling of the gel.

3

Review and maintenance

Progress is monitored and you receive advice on sensitivity, diet and occasional maintenance where clinically appropriate.

Common questions

Things patients often ask

Is professional teeth whitening safe?

Whitening is considered safe when prescribed by a dental professional after an appropriate assessment and used exactly as directed. Products from unregulated sources can carry avoidable risks.

How long will the result last?

Results vary with diet, smoking, oral hygiene and the starting shade. Colour can gradually darken again, and your dentist can advise whether occasional maintenance is appropriate.

Can everyone have whitening?

Not everyone is suitable. Active decay, gum disease, significant sensitivity and other individual circumstances may need attention first. Your dentist will review your health and discuss whether treatment is appropriate.

What side effects can occur?

Temporary tooth sensitivity and gum irritation are the most common effects. Following the prescribed amount and schedule helps reduce risk; contact the practice if symptoms are significant or persist.

Professional guidance helps you brighten your smile while protecting the health behind it.
